The Hallway Gallery: An Exhibition Inside a Comics Department

September 14, 2026 · Dept. of Cartoon & Animation, College of Art & Design, Chosun University · Gwangju, Korea

Welcome, and thank you for coming. Today's venue is a little unusual: not a gallery, but a hallway inside the Department of Cartoon & Animation at Chosun University in Gwangju.

For the third stop of DigiDraw's Korea campus tour, we set up our booth right in the middle of a bright orange wall of student work. We started in Gwangju at Honam University, made the trip out to Suncheon, and now we're back in Gwangju. This time, half the exhibits were drawn by the students themselves.

Gallery 1: Start with the walls

Both sides of the corridor are covered, edge to edge, with student work: webtoons, illustrations, character sheets, storyboards. The department's track list runs long — Cartoon, Comics, Webtoon, Graphic Novel, Illustration, 2D and 3D Animation, Digital FX. Our booth has no partitions and no fences. It just sits directly beneath the work. The best booth design, it turns out, is drawn by the students themselves.

Gallery 2: A nameplate

At the corner stands the department's nameplate: Cartoon & Animation, Chosun University College of Art & Design, with classrooms 8110 and 8111 just beside it. Printing the whole pipeline — from comics to animation to digital effects — on your own front door takes confidence. One look at the homework on the walls tells you where that confidence comes from.

Gallery 3: Sit down, and you're part of the show

Here's the best part of this exhibition: visitors can become exhibitors at any moment. Take a seat at the long table, pick up a pen, and your drawing stays on the screen to greet the next visitor. Turing Pro 19, Turing 14, Smart S/M, Basic S/M — everything is open to try. Nobody explains specs. One stroke, and you get it.

At the end of the table, the sandwiches are ready

The gift shop at the exit

Every gallery exit has a gift shop, and the end of our hallway has one too: a stack of sandwiches and juice, a poster that says “scan the QR code, fill in the survey, take a sandwich,” and campus-only price tags prepared just for students. A survey takes a minute or two, and every single answer goes straight back to our product team's desk.

After closing

Three stops in: we left Gwangju, made a loop, and came back. And we're more sure of one thing than ever — the closer you stand to people who draw, the less explaining you need to do. Thank you to the Dept. of Cartoon & Animation at Chosun University for lending us the hallway for a day.

That's the end of this exhibition. Next stop: soon.
